While Green Man Char has been a leader in biochar production for many years, our state-of-the-art facility in the Dandenong Ranges is a flagship operation. Our local operation also serves a much greater purpose. As part of the company Earth Systems, we not only produce biochar but also design and build these plants, shipping them to communities all over the world. Our facility here in the Yarra Ranges is a working demonstration of the technology we are using to create a global impact.

Our plant processes a substantial volume of woody biomass every month. We're diverting significant amounts of storm-damaged trees and arborist waste from decay or burning and converting it into a valuable, stable resource.
Sequestration: The Real Power of Our Char
When we pyrolyse local timber, we're not just making a soil amendment—we're actively fighting climate change. The carbon from that wood is locked away in the biochar for centuries. Each year, we sequester a massive amount of equivalent, keeping it out of our atmosphere. Since this facility began operation, this has added up to a tremendous environmental impact.
Healing Local Land
The positive impact of Green Man Char isn't just global; it's right here in our community. Every bag of biochar sold contributes to improving soil health across the region. With our current production volume, we can help remediate a vast area of local land.
To put that in a local context, we produce enough biochar annually to revitalize a land area equivalent to many times the size of the Melbourne Cricket Ground! This means we are directly supporting local agriculture, horticulture, and land restoration projects on a significant scale.
