On July 11, 2024, The Green Man set up two Food cube wicking beds in Lysterfield, Vic for a head-to-head trial.
* Bed 1: Utilized a standard commercial synthetic fertilizer/coir/pine bark potting mix.
* Bed 2: Went all-in on a revolutionary blend: pure biochar, with a touch of wood vinegar and frass. The blend consisted of 300L Biochar, 1 litre Wood vinegar mixed with 100 parts water (watered over the unplanted bed) and 2L Frass mixed into the top 15cm of the media.
Fast forward to September 7, 2024, just under two months later, and the results were simply astounding.

The photos tell an undeniable story. While the commercial mix bed yielded healthy plants, the bed enriched with our biochar blend was a lush, thriving masterpiece! The leafy greens were noticeably larger, denser, and radiated an incredible, deep green vitality. It was a clear demonstration of superior nutrient uptake and overall plant vigor.
